Historical review

From the first years of the creation of the International College, 1920, the Address fostered the creation of the School Library as an undisputed value and is essential for the development of the educational activity.

The Library of the International College was founded with the college itself, at the beginning, they were Libraries, classrooms, and in the year 1931, the various collections of the Libraries of classrooms were centralized in a room in the Allen Stone-Buildingin the hall began the General Library.

According to publications found, in 1957, Mrs. Bertha Gilchrist began with the organization, using the Classification system Dewey the 15th edition in English, while the educational activities were under the responsibility of Miss Mary Crank.

From 1957 until 1962, several people worked in the Library as Ms. Agnes Fischback; Lucy Andress; Julia Sakamoto; and Dora Mendoza. In march 1962, he started working for the Miss Yoshiko Moriya as a teacher at the primary level and from the year 1964 happens to work at the Library, during your stay ensured that the library is a place vibrant and full of activities to cultivate a taste for good reading.

In the year 1965, the director of the School Mr. Paul Andress, seeing the need for a professional, to the front of the Library, and taking into account the importance of the same in an educational institution receives the news of the existence of a Scholarship in the united States, and decides to send to the Sta Yoshiko Moriya to be updated in Education and Library science.

In 1966, the return of the fellowship of the Sta Yoshiko Moriya comes with the title of Master in Library science awarded by Vanderbilt University in the US, who was in charge of the direction of the Library, giving start to a stage of organization, from the technical point of view, using international standards.

It should be noted that in 1966 and 1967 in the vacation of three months, in the summer, with the collaboration of Ms. Blanca Martinez, Ms. Elisa Gould and Miss Gloria Ortíz, were recatalogados and classified nearly all the existing materials, using the edition 17° in English, the System of Dewey Decimal Classification to facilitate the use of the materials and throw him to the new standard library.

According to articles published in “The International” in the year 1966, the library moved to the Building Mary Lyons Hall where you are currently located.

Since 1970 progressively increased the activities and services offered by professional librarians, as well in the year 1975, it created the Reference Department staffed exclusively by a professional in the area.

Since the year 1987, bears the name of George Wiley Jr. In attention to the impulse, the worry and the constant support he gave to the library being director of the International School.

In the year 1994, the library, the Program incorporates Micro-Isis developed by Unesco for the automation of the collection, which day by day are going to be updated with the entry of new library materials.

This laid the foundation of a school Library model, until today, for your organization and the various activities that are carried out with the students through the development of different projects.

Mission

To support the teaching-learning process, providing updated information, in order to reach the objectives proposed by the College of organizing and putting at the disposal of the educational community the resources needed to optimize the development of study plans are in place, training and recreation of the students of the institution.
